What is harm reduction?

Harm reduction focuses on reducing risk while respecting autonomy. It does not require abstinence or readiness for change.

Is this a treatment program?

No. Care Before Crisis does not provide treatment or clinical services.

Is this only for people who use substances?

No. Harm reduction applies to many forms of risk, instability, and stress.

Do you replace emergency services?

No. Emergency services are sometimes necessary. Care Before Crisis exists alongside them, not instead of them.

Do people have to want to change?

No. Care is not conditional on change.

Is harm reduction “encouraging” risky behavior?

No. Harm reduction acknowledges reality and focuses on reducing harm, not endorsing behavior.

Who decides what care looks like?

The person receiving care. Autonomy is central.
